Building the sides of the garden box

The first step of the woodworking project is to build the sides of the garden box. As you can easily notice in the plans, we recommend you to attach the 2×6 slats to the 4×4 corner posts. Drill pilot holes through the slats before inserting the screws, in order to prevent the wood from splitting. Add waterproof glue to the joints as to enhance the rigidity of the structure and make sure you leave no gaps between the slats.

Continue the woodworking project by attaching the slats to the front and to the back of the garden boxes. Make sure the corners are right-angled before inserting the 2 1/2″ galvanized screws into place. Add waterproof glue to enhance the rigidity of the structure.

Countersink the head of the bolts before inserting them into place. Leave about 1″ from the edges and drill pilot holes, in order to prevent the wood from splitting.

In order to keep the frame of the garden box perfectly straight on the long run, we recommend you to attach 2×2 stakes the both sides of the frame, as shown in the image. Last but not least, you should take care of the finishing touches. Therefore, we recommend you to check if the components are locked into place properly and structure is rigid enough to support the soil. Make sure there are no protruding screws or sharp edges.
